Friday 4/13/2021 – Having been really lucky with weather this spring, it was bound to happen. 50 degrees, windy and spitting rain ushered in the meet. Here we focused on the 400 and 4×4 as it looks like those areas are our ticket to post-season. Everyone else were told ‘show some improvement!’
In the 1600, Alex Schultz is starting to regain confidence (a bit lacking since his 3200 freshman school record in 2019). A late surge fell short of first as he let the guy get away from him in earlier laps. A season-best 4:49.44 resulted.
Since popping a 50.65 vs Hatboro, Isaiah Marc hadn’t been really tested until now. Going up against a 50.2 kid from Roman Catholic would tell the tale. Heading into the far turn, RC, one lane inside of our guy, began to pass. As Isaiah said later “I wasn’t havin’ it!” He hit the gas, kept an advantage through the curve and pulled away down the stretch. 50.06 puts him at #16 on the Wiss All-Time list and tops in District 1 so far. Meanwhile, Brett Lehman is regaining his form running 51.60 for 3rd after time off with a nagging foot issue. Chase Bethea rounded out the trio with a 53.54.
With North Penn in attendance, we were hoping to match up with their 3:25 4×4 squad. They were busy with other things but Penn Wood brought a 3:29. Adding up splits, I figured 3:27 (district qualifying is 3:26.24) was possible if things played out. Turns out Shawn Carr’s 53.50, although nothing special, brought in the lead and we were never headed. Brett (51.88) kept Penn Wood at bay to the half way point, third leg Bethea (53.46) ‘tiptoed through the tulips’ for the first 150 letting Penn Wood right back into the race but still handed Isaiah (50.20) a slight lead. Their anchor apparently wasn’t their best guy which made the rest easy. 3:29.05 puts us at #5 District-wide.
