At this point in the season, having qualified in all the events we had a shot at, a let down is natural. Wednesday night’s Glen Mills Invite showed signs of wear and tear mentally as well as physically. Ahmir Johnson came up gimpy after his 55HH win, Shamere Dunswell’s knee has been bothering him and Cam Christopher took a spill in the 800. Add it all up, and the staff came to the conclusion that some folks needed a break. We worked the sprinters hard on Friday and gave some of them this meet off. Those who went did well and the distance types had some PRs.
Liam Davies (55H) and Rahsheed Wright (55M) both advanced to their finals, with Wright nabbing second in the dash after breaking the meet record by .03 in the heats, and Davies PRd taking 4th in the hurdles.
In the 400, Cam Christopher found himself dead last at the break, couldn’t get out of trouble down the stretch and finished in 3rd. Close to his season-best time, had he been able to run clear an indoor PR was probable.
The three distance races produced PRs across the board. Justin Ryan continued to show his toughness. He dropped down to the 800 and responded with a 2:06.88 for 4th place. Not to be outdone, Matt Maiale chopped over 10 seconds from previous best for the mile breaking 4:50.0 for the first time with 4:48.55 for 4th and Justin Gruber went 11:05.54 for his best ever at 3000.
