This was a debut in more ways than one. Out of our 25 competitors, this was the first high school meet for 10, and the first meet EVER for 6.
That being said, after the first event, the novice 4×8 (each week, the first event is a relay open only to freshmen and sophs who have never medaled high school track or cross country), we were 1 – 0 as they pulled out a big win. Still, with no one splitting under 2:20, we have some work to do!
Christian McCarry’s 2nd place triple jump of 42-2 (PR 43-0.5) got him into the Meet of Champs (MOC), and Caymus Ruffner lowered his PR from 10:04.84 down to 9:51.90 for his 3000 season opener.
Bryce Miles had a positive first try at 800 as part of the DMR splitting 2:05.9.
And, I have to add, our 4×2, comprised of the above-stated rookies, got the baton around the track with no mishaps with the baton passes looking pretty good! (Just between you and me, I did have my doubts!)
