The season always goes by a lot faster than you realize. With just the Meet of Champs and States left, it really was the ‘last chance’ for some. Whether it’s a relay that hadn’t had the opportunity to go strong, or an ‘on the bubble’ mark which needed improving, this was it.

It was all about relays here. Neither the 4×2 nor  4×8 had not gotten the state standard yet, Shamere Dunswell and Rahsheed Wright  had to do better at 200, our hurdle duo of Johnson and Davies had sharpening to do and Matt Maiale was still trying to make the MOC in the mile.

The 4×2 was the first event on the track. We decided to go with Shamere (23.0) and Rahsheed (22.8) one – two getting us out of trouble. They got that done, handing Sam Kane (23.8) a sizable lead. Max Davies has been running some decent 400’s lately and with Matt Selverian’s recent back troubles, we gave Max a shot here. His 23.3 stopped the clock at 1:33.35 (worth 1:31.75 on a banked track) putting us at #6 PA.

In the 60 dash, it seems the worse his start, the faster he runs. Rahsheed PR’d with 7.06 in the heats looking god-awful and dead last out of the blocks. He placed 5th with 7.08 in the finals. Lots of work to do if he wants to break 7.00.

Matt Maiale’s been dropping his 3000 PR by huge chunks weekly. Stands to reason his mile would improve here. He never quite found his rhythm, running from behind and well off his PR from Ocean Breeze (4:44) and well off the MOC mark of 4:40.24. Final time 4:49.07.

The 4×8 squad must feel like a donkey chasing a carrot on a stick. After running # 12 PA at Ocean Breeze (but off the state standard) we were in. After the weekend’s results were tallied, we were out. Every time we’d drop our time, so would everyone else. That, and we need all hands running their best at the same time. Cam’s 1:58 second leg was a flat-track PR as the other guys (Justin Ryan, Ben Hoyer, Nate Leung) were status quo. 8:19.97 hits the standard again and converts to 8:17.57 banked track conversion. So..as of this writing, we sit at #17 with 16 teams admitted. If someone opts out, which is possible, we’ll be in.
