“Here Comes Wissahickon!” has to be in the back of peoples minds as the post season heats up. After not really showing up on ‘rankings’ lists before Ocean Breeze (save for Ahmir Johnson’s jumping), we get a 1:57 800 from Cam , a 49.8 400  from Rahsheed followed by a strong outing at this the last Association meet.  Six PR’s, 2 more state qualifiers (#4 PA and #8 PA), and 4 more MOC qualifiers!

60 – 1st place. Rahsheed posted 7.11 in the heats and followed that with 7.08. That’s a state qualifier (7.15) and only .04 off our school record (7.04, Tyreece Clayton), and ranks #8 PA.  ‘Start’ practice is paying off! Based on his time, we have to consider adding this event for post-season, as he would have medaled at the state meet last year running this fast.

200 – 2nd place. Shamere Dunswell needed to improve on his 23.26 to insure a trip to states (top 24 accepted). Cutting it to 23.20 may not be enough at this point, still on the bubble ranking 24th. Needs another shot at it.

Mile – 4th place. Ben Hoyer has been chipping away at his PRs in his events all season as he finally cracks the 4:40 barrier here. Sticking to his projected splits, he had some left in the tank for the last lap, stopping the clock at 4:38.08. That’s a PR indoors or out and MOC qualifier.

3000 – 2nd place. Anyone who thought Matt Maiale’s 9:44.58 (converted from his 10:14.58 3200) was a fluke at Glen Mills, certainly wouldn’t believe this one, as he knocked almost 30 seconds off that one with 9:16.09! Another big PR and MOC qualifier.

60HH – 6th place. Not being the fastest sprinter in the group as made Liam Davies a pretty good technician. He improves every outing. His 8.99 trials was another PR, and MOC qualifier.

4×400 – 1st place. Sometimes getting qualified for post-season in the relays comes down to the last couple weeks. If you’re missing a leg for one reason or another during the season, it gets pushed to another weekend. This week, it was the 4×4. Needing to break 3:35 to even have a chance at states, we knew it would take 53.2 per man.

I walked into Rauch field house just in time to witness Upper Dublin posting 3:29.80 to take the Division One race. “Man, do we have work to do” I thought. Knowing what needed to be done, Sam Kane brought in the lead with his 54.2 indoor PR, Rahsheed lengthened it with his 51.2 (there’s tons more there), Max Davies added a 52.3 (first time under 53) and Cam topped it off with 50.9.               3:28.51 is a meet record and converts to 3:26.51 for a banked track which ranks us #4 PA.
