The way this indoor season’s been going, the ‘Last Chance’ was starting to look like the last chance. Various and sundry injuries, as well as hi-jinks and shenanigans, have prevented us from reaching many of our pre-season goals. Those that have been sleeping on Wissahickon woke up Friday night.

There were many notable performances but the big news had to be Yondell Dudley’s huge toss of 55-8. Not only did he smash Daryl Williams’ indoor school mark of 53-11, it tops the ALL-TIME list indoors OR out! The outdoor record is Ken D’Amico’s 55-4 from way back in 1975. (Yondell still has to actually do it outside to be the official outdoor record.) # 6 indoors PA so far. Oh, and it was a meet record too!

Just as we were learning about the shot results, Darien Williams created some history of his own in the 200. Running in the 10th of 13 heats,(seed time of 23.43 from 1/9), he destroyed the field; his time of 22.59 holding up through the ‘faster’ heats for the win, the meet record, the flat-track school record (22.60 Erich Davis 1995) and State Qualifier. #5 PA, #1 PA flat track. Fun fact: The meet record was posted last year by Dan Chesina who went on to be outdoor PIAA State champ at 100 and 200 last May! Just sayin’!

Another guy who’s been off and on the ‘gimpy list’, Ethan Dolberry-Wescott saw his first hurdle action in about month. The rest seems to have paid off. Looking quicker than ever between hurdles, he won his heat in a PR 8.66, just missing the SQS of 8.64. He took a sizable bite out of that time, posting 8.44 for second in the finals behind (bold prediction coming….) this year’s indoor state champ Mason Weh of Upper Darby. =#9 PA.

Lukas Marcelis continues to improve, posting his second mile PR in as many weeks. His 4:35.28 4th place is another all-time best indoors or out for Lukas. He’s dropped his times now in 4 consecutive races at 1 mile and 3000m.

Due to the above-mentioned self-imposed issues, the 4×4 had yet to run a decent time, as each of the four ‘starters’ have had their problems during the season. This was the first time getting all four on the track together, and would be Darien’s first 400 of the year. Running again from a slower heat, Rahsheed Wright (52.5) put us up front at the first exchange, pulling away from the field down the home-stretch. Ethan (52.6) looked smooth as the chase pack made up no ground on his carry. Darien was next and looked a lot faster than his 53.0 (said he felt tightness after the 200), but again, the chasers could not catch up, staking anchor Cam Christopher with a big lead. Now it was just a matter of time. He cruised in with an indoor PR of 51.9, finishing a 3:29.99 effort. As we seem to do often, the time held up as the best of the day. State qualifier, season best and #9 in the state so far.
