The teams that coach all the events (pole vault, hurdles, triple jump, throws) are the teams that compete for the title. With the expertise of Coach Garis in jumps and hurdles and the Leisey Boys in the throws, we put forth the effort every year. So do Cheltenham and Upper Dublin, which is why it’s always us or them (I’m pointing down 309 towards Chelt and Upper Dublin). Lately it’s been us, and with Cheltenham out of the way, there was one more to go.

In spite of some missing athletes due to the usual (grades, injuries and kids being kids), UD brought some challenges. They ran us to the wire at Penn, they have two vaulters with better PRs, some 1600/3200 guys that have posted better marks than our guys, and a jumper that seems to have our number. I figured, if we break even in the stadium, the throwers would seal the deal out on the pitch. (AND the fact that we had all hands on deck for a change!)

Expected wins came from Darien in the 1, 2, and 4×1, Cam at 800 1:59.0, Lukas at 3200 10:01, Ethan at 300H. Expected losses came at 1600, 4×800, LJ,  TJ, and the vault. The unexpected (but always possible) wins came from Rahsheed besting a capable Kyle McMullin at 400, 49.5 to 51.1, Mike Howard picking up slack for Ethan (who hit a hurdle and bailed ) buy winning the 110HH in a PR 15.9, and the 4×4 with Rahsheed completing a great triple by splitting 48.9 and running away from McMullin (again) down the stretch.

With all the drama in the stadium, I checked my texts which showed a 27-0 beat-down being dished out by our ‘Heavers of the Implements’. OUCH! Yondell took shot and disc, James Park took the jav, and senior Trevor Patterson (who??) with a steady improvement all year, posted marks of 126 at jav and a 123-2 toss of the disc, both should score at Conference next weekend!
