With temps outside more suited to spring track, we headed up 309 to kick off the winter season. Since it’s usually one entry per event, each week we have to decide what to attempt to qualify for post-season. The sprinters opted for the 4×2, the distance guys went individual, and the field guys went with their specialties. With the exceptions of Lukas Marsalis having issues in the mile and our long jumper a no-show, things couldn’t have gone better, as we got no less than 5 MOC (Meet of Champions) qualifiers.

Cam Christopher has a relay PR of 49.97 (Penn Relays), so we know he has the speed for 400. He led his heat at the break and won going away. 53.56 (indoor PR) isn’t bad this early, held up for 4th place, and got him into the MOC.

In the 800, Andy Harman put himself in an early hole (as usual, dead last at the break), worked his way up, passed some guys down the stretch and grabbed 5th. 2:04.71 MOC qualifier.

Coming off a successful XC season, Lukas had hoped to go sub-4:40 for his first indoor mile and was on pace to do just that. Somewhere during the 5th lap, he dropped out and this reporter still doesn’t know why. Hope it’s not serious.

Soph Ben Hoyer (3000) continued his tough running as he seems to improve with each outing. Sticking with his pre-race splits, he PR’d by a ton in 9:52.30, finishing in tenth.

The original ‘stacked’ 4×2 included indoor 200 state medalist Darien Williams. We decided to be better safe than sorry and held him out with a sore hip flexor. Lead-off Shamere Dunswell put us way out front (23.7) and we were off to the races. Ethan Dolberry-Wescott (23.7), Rasheed Wright (23.8) and Sam Kane (24.5) showed decent stick work in the 1:36.00 win. (MOC qualifier).

Not to be out-done, Yondell Dudley tossed a PR 50-9 for the win (MOC), and Amir Johnson was only a foot off his freshman TJ record of 42-7 with his 41-8.5 win (MOC).  Not bad, as he’s only been on the runway twice so far.
